Knights sunk by late goal at Quorn

Quorn 1 Pinchbeck United 2

A 94th minute winner condemned Pinchbeck United to defeat at Quorn on Saturday.

On their return to action in the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division after the recent FA Vase heroics, sub Benjamin Johnson thought he had earned his side a draw after scoring in the 83rd minute.

But Anthony Carney’s late strike proved decisive.

Both sides had chances during an even first half but neither side were able to find the breakthrough.

The deadlock was broken just past the hour mark when Quorn’s David Assuncao broke into the area and despite having a host of players around him, he was able to twist and find the finish to make it 1-0.

Quorn continued to create chances and the same player forced an excellent save from Knights keeper and captain for the day Alex Smith with his feet.

Pinchbeck were also looking dangerous on the counter.

It was from one such move they levelled with seven minutes remaining.

Elliot Foster found space down the right before squaring to Johnson. Though the ball was slightly behind him he adjusted and produced a fine finish into the top right hand corner of the net.

But deep into seven minutes of injury time it was the home side who found the winner.

Pinchbeck failed to clear their line and a ball into the box was flicked on to the back post where Carney was on his own and able to poke home for the win.

The win moved Quorn third in the table while Pinchbeck are in 15th.

The Knights host Belper United at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday in a 3pm kick off.

Knights: Smith, Stevens, Burdass, Robson, Foster, Bayly (Johnson 83), Peasgood, Sherrof, Simpson, Viera, Williams. Sub not used: Henderson.
