LETTERS – Thanks for Poppy support

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal raised some £12,600 in Holbeach and the surrounding area this year.

Alan Sheppard, branch chairman and Poppy Appeal organiser for the town, said the response was more than he could have hoped for.

“With the cost-of-living crisis and other continuing pressures on everyone, it is remarkable that people have been so generous once more and we are really grateful,” he said.

“This year’s total is even higher than 2021, which is a great testament to the generosity of folk in and around Holbeach in difficult times, and reminds us of the special place the work of the Royal British Legion has in people’s hearts.”

He thanked the volunteers who took donations at tables in stores in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, and the shops, schools and other places that also collected donations, as well as those that supported other events throughout the year such as pub quiz nights.

Alan ended with a request for more people to volunteer and to help him with arrangements in future years.
