Lovers of live music in Spalding can expect an unusual and very enjoyable afternoon on Sunday October 9 when the Meraki Duo perform in the comfortable surroundings of Broad Street Methodist Church, promoted by South Holland Concerts.
Meera Maharaj (flute) and James Girling (guitar) formed the Meraki Duo in 2013 to explore the diversity of repertoire available to this instrumental combination while contributing new arrangements of their own.
Both studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, and both share a passion for chamber music extending to jazz, Latin – American and European folk and works by contemporary composers.
Meera gained her first class honours degree at the RNCM and a Distinction in her Masters at the Royal College of Music.
She has won many awards and is currently supported by the Tunnell Trust, the Park Lane Group and the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme. James also graduated from the RNCM with first class honours and gained a Distinction there in his Masters. He studied classical guitar with Craig Ogden and jazz with the pianist Dan Whieldon.
A spokesman for South Holland Concerts, said: “Their fascinating programme ranges from Debussy and Bartok (his tuneful and very lively Romanian Folk Dances) to songs arranged by James Girling, and Macedonian Pieces for Alto flute and guitar. It is not to be missed!
“South Holland Concerts is a voluntary group of music lovers who have been promoting high quality professional concerts in Spalding for over 30 years.”
This concert is supported by the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme.
