Man tells court he’ll lose job after crashing while driving drunk

A Spalding man told magistrates he would lose job when he was banned from driving following his court appearance for driving with excess alcohol.

Paulo de Olivera Veiga, 42, who admitted the offence when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court, was said to have been arrested when he gave a positive breath test after he crashed his Seat Toledo into another car at 9.35pm on July 8 in St Thomas Road.

The magistrates were told he gave a reading of 48 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35.

Veiga, who was not represented, apologised to the court and told the magistrates he would be losing his job as a result of a driving ban.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months, but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 14 weeks.

He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay a total of £133 in court costs and charges.
