Heavy fall ends Ben Wilson’s Silverstone weekend

A crash during Saturday practice forced Ben Wilson to withdraw from the MCE British Superbike Championship races at Silverstone on Sunday.

The Kirton racer was suffering with blurred vision and concussion after crashing his Gearlink Kawasaki machine in Northamptonshire. Friday’s free practice had gone well for the Wilson, who completed the two sessions in 19th and 18th position.

But the overnight rain had left the track surface wet and slippery and the rain was falling as they went out for the final free practice. Wilson was going well and holding eighth place when he came across a slower rider and was forced to shut off. But as he accelerated away, he highsided and was thrown from his bike, hitting his head on the Tarmac.

He did take part in the three stage qualifying session but failed to make it through to stage two.

He came out for morning warm up on Sunday but only completed two laps and was dead last. As the riders took their grid positions for the first race Wilson was missing and it was announced he had opted to withdraw.

A trip to hospital then revealed his injuries, which aren’t expected to affect his participation at the final round of the series at Brands Hatch on October 19.
