Queen’s Canopy is given blessing

South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes has urged others to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ at the blessing of a canopy in her name.

Around 70 trees have been planted on land off Goodison Road in Spalding as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

Organised by Jan Whitbourn, the trees were purchased with help from a donation by Lightspeed Broadband on land donated by Ashwood Homes, who also provided memorial plaques created by Chain Bridge Ford.

Last week the trees received a blessing from Rev John Bennett in a ceremony attended by Sir John.

“The Queen’s Canopy is a fitting tribute in her jubilee year as it’s something that generations to come will enjoy.

“It will leave a lasting legacy to the fantastic service of our Queen.”
