Big basement battle is ‘just another game’ for Pinchbeck United boss Thorogood

It’s a huge day in Pinchbeck United’s season on Saturday as they make the trip to Uhlsport UCL Premier Division relegation rivals Quorn (3pm).

Two of the league’s bottom three sides with only Holbeach United below them, the Knights are just two points clear of their Leicestershire rivals.

Should Lewis Thorogood’s side lose, they will find themselves in the drop zone come 5pm on Saturday – but a first victory since mid-September would see them move a morale-boosting five points clear of the bottom two.

Thorogood, however, is refusing to add any extra significance to the clash.

“It’s just another game for us really,” said the Knights chief. “Everyone keeps saying it’s the big one, but I don’t want to add any extra pressure onto the lads with that kind of view.

“Yes, on paper it’s a big game at the bottom and we obviously want to pick up some points.

“Both us and Quorn haven’t won a league game for a while and we’re both trying to rebuild. So let’s take a draw and go!

“Joking aside, I have a lot of confidence in my side.

“We’ve deserved better from our last three games and I do feel results are around the corner.

“If we play like we have been doing, I’m confident we’ll get points on the board sooner or later.

“There’s a bit of a mini-league around the bottom and we’ve got a few of those sides to play in the coming weeks. It would be a good time for us to start turning performances into results, for sure.”

Pinchbeck have no new injury concerns for the trip to Leicestershire, but left back Ben Robson is banned.
