Thorogood admits Pinchbeck United need to get points on the board ahead of Nirvana test

Lewis Thorogood says Pinchbeck United are targeting a first win since mid-September when they take on Leicester Nirvana on Saturday.

The Knights, who were down in 15th place in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North after Wednesday night’s 2-0 home home defeat to Loughborough Students, have been drifting towards the drop zone in recent weeks.

A string of six tough away games hasn’t dampened morale, though, with Thorogood looking forward to taking on mid-table Nirvana at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field (3pm).

“It is nice to have a few home fixtures,” quipped Thorogood. “It’s a treat not to be travelling again – it does take it out of you.

“This is a chance for us to aim to win a game again.

“No game is easy in this league and Nirvana have certainly picked up in recent weeks.

“We can look at this game, then a home derby with Boston Town the following week and a huge match with Quorn after that as big games in our season.

“The target is to win matches if we can, but we just need points on the board – it’s been a while since we did anything but lose.

“I know the lads will put in 110 per cent and we go from there.”

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck have lost top scorer Enoch Opayinka, who has joined Spalding United on dual forms.

Thorogood added: “Enoch wants to play as high as he can and we respect that. We feel we’ve played a part in his development and put him in the shop window.”
