A father and daughter’s charity bike ride from Holbeach to Crawley was fine – in terms of both the physical challenge and the weather.

Steve and Dayna Kingshott pedalled from home in Stukeley Road to Crawley fire station over last Saturday and Sunday.

The pair hope to have raised about £800 for The Fire Fighters’ Charity and Boston and South Holland branch of the MS Society.

Steve (47) said: “Surprisingly, it was easier than we expected.
“We had a few complications with some of the cycle routes we’d planned being unpassable, but physically we were fine and not too stiff on Monday.”

The pair set off at 6.15am on Saturday and bar a few stops – the longest being a 15-minute lunch break – cycled for ten hours to Stansted.

They were back in the saddle at 7.30am on Sunday, arriving at their destination in West Sussex at 2pm. Unfortunately only Steve’s brother-in-law Robert Johnson, who is watch manager, was there to greet them – the rest of the crew was on a shout.

Steve (47) is a retained firefighter at Holbeach and Dayna (17) is a student at King’s Lynn’s College of West Anglia.
Their online donation pages remain open. Dayna’s is www.virginmoneygiving.com/theddchallengems and Steve’s is www.virginmoneygiving.com/theddchallengefire
