Brilliant week for Spalding Cycling Club’s Bowser after double time trial triumph

An exceptional time of 22.47mins steered Andy Bowser to first place at round seven of Spalding Cycling Club’s ten-mile time trial league.

Bowser is performing really well at the moment and made the most of his recent training camp in the Highlands of Scotland – where he completed the North Coast 500 route, managing a strategic rest day in the middle which has allowed him to demolish his recent personal best (PB) times.

He edged out second-placed Kieran Buffham (22.53mins) at the Pode Hole course, with Matt Chappell (25.10mins) some way back in third.

The top five was completed by Mark Hills (25.36mins) and Andrew Gurney (26.10mins).

Other times: Chris Bettinson (26.49mins); Gerry Charlwood (27.12mins); Velvet Bowser (29.10mins); Joseph Seaborn Townsend (35.04mins); Rob McAlinden DNF; Josh Wallis DNS.

  • Sunday saw a Spalding CC team of Josh Wallis, Andy Bowser, Rob McAlinden and Simon Wright competed in the East District Cycling Association 25-mile Time Trial Championship hosted by Wisbech Wheelers on an out and back course the A47.

Wallis took second place with a strong ride in a time of 50.25mins, just four seconds off the winner.

Bowser set a PB with a time of 55.08mins, as did McAlinden in his first 25 for six years with a time of 1.00.04hrs.

Wright set a time of 1.02.26hrs, which a little short of his recent PB.

Those times were enough for Spalding CC to take the team prize.

  • The team of Frazer Wallis, Adam Ellis, Kieran Buffham with Matt Ellis (Saint Piran) in support competed in circuit race in Leicester last Monday night.

The racing was fast and frantic, with Wallis taking 10th, while Adam Ellis was 12th in the cat three/four race.
Buffham and Matt Ellis finished safely in the bunch in the cat two race.
