Flood warning in place on River Glen – Surfleet Reservoir particularly at risk this evening

A flood warning has been placed on the River Glen following the more than 24 hours of rain and snowfall experienced yesterday.

The Environment Agency say properties at Surfleet Reservoir are most at risk, particular ahead of this evening’s (Friday) high tide.

The warning from the Environment Agency states: “Heavy rain has been falling on the River Glen catchment over the past 24 to 36 hours.

“The rising river levels have already caused flooding of low lying land and roads in glens. Due to flows from the upper catchment, and tide lock at Surfleet, we now expect properties in Surfleet Reservoir to be affected on the evening tide of Friday, January 15.

“This Flood Warning is now in force for this evening’s tide lock period: From 6.40pm to 10:40pm on January 15, and will be reviewed for tomorrow’s tide.

“Low lying properties at Surfleet Reservoir are most at risk. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings, and avoid contact with flood water.

“Avoid riverside paths and please stay away from river embankments.

“Our staff will be out closely monitoring the situation during the tide lock period, and this message will be updated on Saturday, January 16, or as the situation changes.”
