Say Elloe to the Good Neighbours

A new Good Neighbours scheme has been officially launched to help people in the south of the district.

The East Elloe Good Neighbours scheme is a group of volunteers aiming to help those that need it in Long Sutton, Sutton Bridge, Fleet and Tydd St Giles.

And more potential volunteers are being urged to come forward in the area.

It’s been set up with a grant from Lincolnshire County Council and help from Community Lincs/YMCA.

The group’s Frank Heinrich-Jones (pictured) said: “Our aim is to enhance the quality of life for our residents by helping them with all sorts of tasks such as providing companionship, form filling, letter writing, shopping, fetching prescriptions, changing library books, dog walking, light gardening, watering plants on a short-term basis when you are unable.

“Services are primarily aimed at the elderly, disabled, vulnerable, frail, lonely and those living alone. Help is given free although a charge is made for transport mileage.

“We are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit, local community group and aim to enhance the quality of life for residents in the East Elloe area, which will be achieved by helping those in need with a variety of smaller tasks.

“A number of volunteers have come forward to sign up to offer their services, however, we still need more volunteers to help us with the anticipated needs of the local community.”

Volunteers should contact Father Johnathan Sibley, vicar of St Mary’s Church, Long Sutton by calling 01406 362033 or emailing [email protected] or Katy Gale at Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Services (LCVS) South Holland Volunteer Centre 0n 07508 950438 or [email protected]

Those requesting support services from the Good Neighbour scheme call 0800 9991894. The phone will be manned every day of the week from 9am to 4pm.

During lockdown support will be restricted to doorstep service and there will be no transport available.
