Tom Crozier was sacked as manager of Pinchbeck United on Monday after just over a month in charge – with chairman Gary Coomes admitting that he made a “mistake” appointing him.
He was given the role back on September 24 and oversaw four defeats and one draw from his five games in charge, with the Knights now sat second-from bottom in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division.
Coomes, who had hoped that Crozier and his associate Elliott Fountain would help re-shape the club moving forward, now accepts that he made the wrong call in bringing them to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
“Results have been far from ideal,” said the Knights chairman. “But that’s the tip of the iceberg really.
“Tom and Elliott have brought in a lot of new players and a high percentage of them haven’t been good enough for the level.
“A few have been good, but sadly the negatives outweigh the positives.
“I don’t really want to go into great detail, but Tom was sacked on Monday and neither he or Elliott have any association with the club anymore.
“I have to take some responsibility, I made a bad decision with the appointment and have to fix the mess now.
“I’ve made no secret of the fact that I feel like a step seven chairman at step five level and wanted people to come in and get involved with not only the team but the running of the club.
“Sadly, that didn’t materialise here and the communication wasn’t good enough either.
“We move on.”
It is expected that Pinchbeck will move swiftly to replace Crozier, with a new candidate already lined up and expected to be announced imminently.
Wednesday night’s home game with Deeping Rangers has been postponed due to a confirmed positive player COVID-19 test in the Clarets squad – and Coomes understands that Saturday’s Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field date with Lutterworth Town also looks in doubt for the same reason.
