300 up for Keeble but play-offs look out of reach

Only a series of shock results and unlikely mathematical equations can now secure a play-off spot for Holbeach United.

A late penalty prevented them from closing the gap on Diss Town on Saturday, with the Tigers having to settle for a 2-2 draw. It leaves them 12 points behind the Norfolk side, who hold the final play-off berth, with only 12 more points left to play for in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League.
To extend their season, manager Chris Carter must guide his team to four wins and not only hope that Diss fail to gain one more point, but also that there is a 12-goal turnover in their respective goal differences. The Tigers also need FC Peterborough and Gorleston Reserves to hit a similar slump in form.
At 2-1 up, going into the last minute of Saturday’s match at Carter’s Park, there was a slightly higher chance but Liam Jackson’s spot kick leaves them clutching at straws.
Callum Wright gave Holbeach the lead and, after Diss had levelled just before the break, substitute Marley Hamilton latched on to a long through ball to make it 2-1.
However, not even the introduction of Jordan Keeble for his 300th appearance in Tiger stripes to inspire the team to a match-killing third goal.
Tigers: Simpson, Bassendine-Matthews (Greenacre), Oldham, Roberts, Ling, Carter, Kacirek (Gadzia), Thorne, Compton (Keeble), Wright (Hamilton), Cook. Sub: Ibeneme.
Attendance: 101.
