13 jobs go as Brantano store in Spalding closes

Lack of interest from potential buyers in Spalding’s Brantano shoe store made it unviable to keep it open, administrators have said.

The Holland Market store closed on Friday, May 26, and 13 staff were made redundant.

Tony Barrell and Mike Jervis of PwC were appointed as joint administrators of Brantano Retail Limited, in March 2017. For weeks the Spalding store displayed closing down signs but administrators maintained there was hope.

Mr Barrell said: “Unfortunately, it was not commercially viable to continue trading in Spalding.
“We are grateful for the support of the employees during this difficult period, and will assist them with their claims for redundancy and other compensatory payments.
“The staff affected by this decision will be paid up to and including their last day of employment.”

A PwC statement said: “Following their appointment, the administrators continued to trade the business whilst assessing the trading strategy and pursuing interest in parts of the business. “Having reviewed the level of interest received, it was no longer commercially viable to continue trading in Spalding.”

Brantano’s concession in Beales Department Store, in Market Place, Spalding, closed at the end of April with the redundancy of three staff.
