Young Spalding Golf Club duo enjoy Belton Park success

Two top young Spalding Golf Club talents are celebrating after putting in super showings at the Woodruff Walter competition at Belton Park last week.

Tommy Hull and Tilly Garfoot claimed the top prizes in the junior competition, continuing their excellent respective seasons in the process.

  • Jonathan Mason claimed top spot in the midweek 9-hole Stableford in Spalding GC’s seniors’ section.

His score of 20 points was enough to edge George Senior (19pts) in second spot, with Chris Warnes securing third place ahead of three other players on 18 points.

Calum Lewis (fourth), Harvey Maxwell (fifth) and Phil Packard (sixth) were all pushed down the order on countback.

  • Spalding’s seniors played out an excellent 4-4 friendly draw with hosts Burghley Park last Monday.

A very even match after the first two pairings saw Spalding one up. Then they were one down after four games and pulled it back to all square after five games.

There, Albert Jacobs and Mark Craig came in with a good win which resulted in the match being drawn.

There was another exciting 4-4 draw as Spalding’s seniors welcomed a team from King’s Lynn to the Surfleet course for a rearranged fixture.

It all came down to the last match when Dave Morris, playing with Alan Pritchard, sunk a long put on the 18th hole to win 1up and secure a second draw in a matter of days.
