Harrowby United 0
Holbeach United 5
Unbeaten Holbeach United climbed up to second in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division with a 5-0 win at Harrowby United on Tuesday – but a terrible tackle on Tyler Wright took the gloss off.
Frontman Josh Ford inspired the rout with a hat-trick, while Jack Smith and Spencer Tinkler also got in on the act at the Environcom Stadium.
However, midfield maestro Wright was forced off after suffering a leg injury following a wild challenge from Simon Bolland, who was duly sent off.
Wright was taken to hospital following the tackle, which occurred when the scores were still locked at 0-0.
Tigers player/boss Tom Roberts was happy with what he called a professional performance, but branded Bolland’s challenge “X-rated” and “stupid”.
He said: “It was a very good performance, Harrowby is a tough place to go midweek.
“It was a very professional showing and we did the basics well.
“But the win is soured by Tyler’s injury. It looks like he could have fractured his leg, we’ll have to wait and see.
“The tackle was horrific, a real X-rated one. I don’t know what he was thinking, it was a stupid challenge and deserved a red card.
“It’s taken the shine off our result and really leaves us struggling for numbers ahead of the weekend game.”
Bolland’s red card came midway through the first half and opened the door for Ford to score two angled drives on 34 and 45 minutes.
Free-scoring midfielder Tinkler then lashed home number three after the break to settle the contest, with Smith grabbing the fourth before Ford’s hat-trick effort.
It could have been more, too, with Aaron Eyett cracking the bar.
With Jamie Stevens, Tommy Treacher and Jake Clitheroe all banned for Saturday’s home date with Desborough Town (3pm), Roberts hopes to have two new signings in his squad before then.
The Tigers also welcome Yaxley to Carter’s Park on Wednesday (7.45pm).
Tigers: Drury, Walton (Allen), A Jackson, N Jackson, Stevens, Warfield, Tinkler (Smith), Wright (Treacher), Eyett, Ford, Thomas. Not used: Roberts, Grimwood.
