Two people had to pull a woman out of her burning home in one of two house fires in the area at the weekend.
Igors Dilans and Stewart Campbell had to help rescue a woman in her 50s who was then taken to hospital after a fire destroyed the lounge of her Wygate Road home in Spalding around midday on Sunday, January 29.
It came the day after someone was evacuated from their Fleet Road home in Fleet following another house fire.
Igors, who lives next door but one to the fire, noticed the fire coming back from the shops.
“I saw the smoke coming out and saw the neighbour laying next to the house and Stewart was trying to get her up,” he said. “I realised that my help was needed urgently to help move her a safe distance from the burning house.
“When we lifted her there was a loud bang and the windows of the house popped out.
“Fire burst out of the windows and black smoke expelled.
“Firefighters and an ambulance came very quickly. Soon after that an air ambulance also arrived and took her to the hospital.”
The woman was taken via the road ambulance with the air ambulance doctors in attendance.
Stewart’s mum Margaret lives opposite the home.
“It’s shaken us all up,” she said. “I wasn’t feeling well so I was in bed and then just heard all these loud bangs.
“I’m so proud of Stewart and Igors, who is a lovely man.
“They helped move her away.
“Her hands were really badly burned, as she was all down her front.
“She had to sit outside for around an hour and a half until the air ambulance came.”
Lincolnshire Police have said the woman suffered serious injuries but the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said one hose reel was used to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the lounge and led to smoke damage throughout the house.
The previous day five fire crews were called to Fleet Road in Fleet where a house was “80 per cent” destroyed, a spokesman for the fire service said.
Due to the house being unstable, fire crews have so far been unable to enter and ascertain the cause.
