A woman who drove her car into a ditch in the early hours of the morning, was almost twice over the legal limit for alcohol, a court has heard.
Heather Smith, 56, of St Margarets, Quadring admitted driving with excess alcohol when she appeared before District Judge Peter Veits sitting at Boston Magistrates Court.
Prosecuting, Marie Stace said police were called to the incident in Boston Road, Gosberton at 1.47am on January 10 and found Mrs Smith in her Kia Carens car half in a ditch.
She said she was sitting in the driver’s seat holding the steering wheel and smelt of alcohol.
After a positive breath test, she was arrested and told police she had drunk two bottles of wine and had gone out to buy cigarettes.
She said she gave a reading of 69 micrograms of alcohol in her breath, the legal limit being 35.
Mitigating, Tony Davies said she had been unable to sleep because of arthritic pain and had gone out to buy cigarettes and suffered a puncture.
Judge Veits told Ms Smith she had made ‘a poor decision’ and banned her from driving for 16 months but offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by four months.
She was also fined £120 and ordered to pay a total of £119 in court costs and charges.
