Winning Welland Yacht Club double for on-song ace Andy

Race ace Andy Prior won two of the three races at Welland Yacht Club on Sunday.

Although there was a good strong wind for the members, the weather was decidedly colder than in previous weeks.

Four boats – including junior Rosie Willerton – took to the water for the first of the day’s races, Morning Points race four.

It was Prior who took the win from the returning Tom Bell, with Geri van Haren third and Willerton not far back in fourth.

The afternoon’s two races saw the start of the new Personal Handicap Pursuit series.

In a pursuit race, the handicaps are applied to the race duration at the beginning to give staggered start times for each of the competitors.

Once the race duration is over position on the water is the result.

Neil Tack won the first race ahead of Tom Bell, with Prior third and Gail Follington fourth.

Prior then stormed to victory in the second, edging Bell into second and dropping Tack to third.
