Welland Yacht Club really push the boat out at their open day

Welland Yacht Club’s 2019 open day event was a success on Sunday as a host of families took them up on their offer of trying out sailing.

Run in conjunction with the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) “push the boat out” scheme across the country, the aim was to encourage as many people as possible to try sailing and other water-based activities.

Five Welland club boats were out on the water during the day – complete with volunteer helms taking up to three guests out at a time.

Some of the younger guests even took to the water in some of the club’s canoes.

The day was well-attended, with some families electing to make a day of it and bring a picnic lunch and have multiple trips out in the club boats.

Most were surprised at what the club has to offer – especially regarding the junior sailing sessions run on Sunday mornings, as well as how tranquil sailing on Welland can be.

Anyone wanting to know more about sailing and what the club can offer should contact the club via email [email protected] for more information.
