Knights stay in drop zone after suffering home loss

Pinchbeck United remain in the bottom three of the GCE Hire Fleet United Counties Football League standings after being handed a 3-1 home defeat by Swallownest on Saturday.
The Knights found themselves 2-0 down at half-time as goals from Patrick Muirhead (37) and Alex Wilkinson (43) put the visitors in a commanding position at Eslaforde Park.
Lewis Thorogood’s charges hit back through Luke Cullen’s effort on 64 minutes, as he collected Jordan Haywood’s delivery and slotted home from close range.
The Knights were then given a further boost seconds later when Swallownest’s Max Skelton was sent off for committing a foul when he was the last man.
Pinchbeck looked to utilise their numerical advantage and went close to levelling when Julian Ward cut in from the left and tested the away keeper.
But any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Wilkinson added his second 13 minutes from time, consigning Pinchbeck to a 21st league loss of the season.
Pinchbeck’s relegation rivals Gedling MW and Sleaford Town both lost on Saturday, while Holwell Sports picked up a draw – so it’s pretty much as you were in the race for survival.
Just above those four in the table are Radford – and it’s they who the Knights visit next this Saturday (3pm).
Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s player of the month award for February has been picked up by goalkeeper Ben Martin.
The stopper claimed the prize, which was sponsored by The Sport Cave Memorabilia, after putting in a string of great performances throughout the month.
Knights: Martin, Drought (Akajiaku 46), Haywood (Keating 89), Melson, Simpson, Brooks, Henderson, Panton, Slater (Ward 46), Balding, Cullen.
Attendance: 53.
