Volunteers step up for church

A host of people have stepped up to help at a historic Spalding church.

St Mary and St Nicholas Church in Spalding organised a drop-in session to encourage more volunteers to come forward and help the church which dates back to the 13th century.
“I was delighted by the response,” said Rev John Bennett, of the event put on by the church’s Maxine Arnott last week. “I enjoyed meeting, talking with people and taking them around the church.
“At least ten of them have offered to help with different areas of the church including flower arranging, choir, cleaning, bell ringing, grounds maintenance, the shop and training as guides.
“We are glad of the additional help and we will ensure that they feel valued and enjoy what they are doing.”
Among those at the session was ward councillor Mark Le Sage.
“It was lovely to meet such dedicated people who obviously care so much about the church and its community,” he said. “I was given a tour of the bell tower ground floor and I’m looking forward to my bell ringing taster session in a few weeks.”
