Plans for holiday homes on site

Plans have been submitted to create a holiday park in Whaplode on a site previously allocated for a gypsy and traveller site.

VMM Properties Ltd is looking to build 19 lodges and associated buildings including reception alongside two new fishing lakes at Bleu Ray Farm off Mill Gate.
Despite local opposition, permission had been granted for a four-berth site for the travelling community in 2020 after it had been selected for that use as part of the South and East Lincolnshire Local Plan.
At the time, Whaplode Parish Council called that development ‘unsustainable in this location from any form of residential development’.
Documents submitted on behalf of the applicant of the holiday park plans say the remoteness and tranquillity is ‘not relevant’ to the application and said it would be a £110,000 a year boost to the local economy.
The documents continue: “The carefully considered site layout and lodge design recognises the site’s constraints and opportunities resulting in an attractive form of development that will enhance the rural setting.
“The proposed cabins are modest in scale and have minimal impact on the wider landscape.
“The site will be for holiday/leisure use and not restricted solely to adults.
“A condition restricting the site to holiday use can be imposed which would preclude the use of cabins as residential accommodation.
“The proposal will deliver high quality holiday let lodges which, in accordance with the Core Strategy will satisfy the high local demand for tourism.”
