A group of volunteers are on hand to help you see wildlife at a reopened South Holland nature reserve, including the majestic cranes.
Willow Tree Fen near Tongue End has been closed in recent years after a pair of cranes became the first to breed in South Lincolnshire in around 50 years there.
Throughout lockdown volunteers have been standing there to oversee the birds from a distance.
Now Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust has opened a new car park where members of the public can view the birds which have returned for a third year.
The volunteers will be on hand from 9am to dusk/9pm for those wishing to catch a glimpse of the birds or other wildlife frequently seen on the fen.
They met at a training event last Saturday.
“We’ve been doing this for a couple of years but a lot of us had not met before,” said David Cohen who is volunteering alongside wife Susanne. “We’ve been looking out for the birds through most of the pandemic but have only really been messaging on WhatsApp.
“You do get very invested in the cranes’ success and their future,” Mathew Capper, the head of public engagement and communications at Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust who took the video of one of the cranes posted below. “We’re now looking forward to helping the public see them.”
The car park is off Counter Drain Drove opposite Bank House Farm (PE11 3JH).
