Tydd St Giles golfers chip in £770 to Cancer Research

Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Bob John Classic charity competition raised an impressive £770 for Cancer Research.

Senior co-ordinator Roy Pesterfield organised the annual event, which attracted no fewer than 80 golfers to the course.
The winning team, with 125 points, was Duncan Wiles, Alex Wiles, Tony Barns and Colin Page.
Runners-up, with 123 points, were Baz Smith, Terry Sambridge, John Matthews and Maria Taylor-Vassall. The proceeds were presented to Val Johns after the competition was completed.

Division Two – 1st Stephen Jeffries 38pts (ocb); 2nd Vaughan Dibble 38pts; 3rd Steve Slim 37pts. Division Three – 1st Garry Withers 38pts (ocb); 2nd Gary Hotson 38pts; 3rd Paul Brown 37pts.
South Lincolnshire Scratch League: Result – Tydd St Giles B 3.5 Sutton Bridge 2.5 (Josh Chaplain-Barton & Vaughan Dibble halved, Phil Tilney & Jimmy Woods lost 1 down, Andy Sleath & James Horscroft lost 6&4, Ben Dennis & Gary Fitzjohn won 3&2, Derek Hodgson & John Nobbs won 3&2, Dan Ball & Keith Jakings won 2up).

Seniors’ section: Result – Sutton Bridge Seniors 2.5 Tydd St Giles 3 (Norman Davis & David Matthews lost 2&1, John Caney & Don Robinson halved, Ray Page & Mervyn Williamson won 1up, Harold Shingleton & Keith Robinson lost 3&2, Rick Morley & Sid Everitt won 8&7, Roy Amos & Tony Town lost 4&3). This match served as the final round of the Norman Davis Niblick, which was won by Sutton Bridge by 2 holes.
Result: Sutton Bridge 3.5 Feltwell Seniors 2.5 (Richard Titchener & Sid Everitt won 5&4, Rick Morley & Mervyn Williamson halved, Norman Davis & Don Robinson halved, Harold Shingleton & Roy Amos lost 2&1, Keith Robinson & Steve Saffer won 2&1, Roger Williamson & Roy Fox halved).
Ladies’ section: Result – Sutton Bridge 3 Eagles 0 (Anne Clarke & Jenny Wells won, Karen Gillett & Diane Wareham won, Jean Buswell & Betty Reeve won).
