Two new sites have been earmarked in Spalding for the disposal of non-toxic waste.
An area in Wardentree Lane/Enterprise Park and another on Clay Lake Industrial Estate are among 13 across Lincolnshire to be included in a draft Lincolnshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan.
The plan is aimed at ensuring the county can meet its waste management needs until 2031.
Although the two preferred sites are outlined on a map, Lincolnshire County Council has said it cannot provide exact sizes, but they must be at least two hectares – the size of almost three football pitches.
The draft document went before the council’s environmental scrutiny committee last week and is likely to go out to public consultation in the autumn.
Coun Colin Davie, executive member for planning, said: “We are required to ensure that there is sufficient land available in Lincolnshire to meet the needs of the waste industry.
“These two sites are industrial estates, which were identified as potential locations for future waste management.
“At this stage of the process, the specific type of waste that would be handled at each site has not been decided.
“However, we can reassure people that it would be general waste, not hazardous material.
“Our proposals will be going out to public consultation in the autumn. Once we have finalised our plans, they will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate, who will then hold an examination, during which people will have another chance to express their views.
“We anticipate a decision from the Planning Inspectorate in autumn 2016, with the final plan being adopted in spring 2017.”
