Tulips beaten by Belper

Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands

Spalding United 0 Belper Town 3

Spalding United slipped to a second successive defeat as they were comfortably beaten by Belper Town tonight (Tuesday).

The start of the match was delayed until 8pm after Belper were late arriving to the Sir Halley Stewart after being stuck in traffic.

Spalding started well with McLeod being denied by a good block in the 11th minute.

Then Stefan Broccoli thought he’d put Spalding in front but his curled 23rd minute effort slammed against the crossbar.

But just five minutes later Belper were ahead from the penalty spot. Jonathon Margetts was the man fouled in the box and he himself fired home the from 12 yards.

The game really got away from the home side on the stroke of half time when they conceded twice in three minutes.

On 44 minutes Margetts turned provider squaring from the left for Alex Patterson to turn home.

Two minutes into first half stoppage time Margetts added his second and Belper’s third with a good finish.

The Tulips have produced some fine comebacks recently but any hope this was to be another of those was ended when Gregg Smith was sent off in the 70th minute for a second yellow card.

Spalding host Southern Premier League side Tamworth in the FATrophy this Saturday.
