Trophy time as Spalding and District Table Tennis League season concludes with AGM

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League officially closed their season with their AGM and presentation evening as trophies were dished out to all of the award winners.

Held at the usual playing venue of Spalding High School, there was a reasonable show of members, while some new and returning faces also attended.

The league chairman summarised the season just gone and thanked the local Round Table and Ladies’ Circle for their generous donation back in March.

This donation was much needed to help buy new nets and support the summer weeks for juniors.

This was returned by the league hosting a coaching and tournament evening for their members to enjoy.

Last season, the league was faced with the High School Fitness Centre closing at the end of August.

After much work from the committee, the High School have allowed the league to continue with the hiring of the facility, much to their delight.

The treasurer also reported that results were much like previous years.

This year, the league season finished on time – although several matches were not played.

It was also noted that the league had a small batch of juniors attending over the course of August, but the attendance from league members was poor over the summer sessions, some weeks with no attendees.

The subs are to be kept the same as they were last season and visitors will be charged £5 per session.

The competition and match secretary highlighted that this season hasn’t had as many issues as previous ones, this has been as a result of the new rules which were implemented.

Division One started off as a three-horse race to the title, but in the end South Holland prevailed.

Division Two saw the returning players in TNC fight it out against Rusty Nails. It was TNC who eventually came out on top.

The following are the 2018/19 winners for each cup: Division One – South Holland. Division Two – TNC. Guardian Cup – Team TJ. Maryland Cup – TNC, Moulton Shield – South Holland. Division One individuals – P Ostrowska. Division Two individuals – J Sawyer. Supreme – W Roper. Veterans – W Roper. Doubles – J Gilbert/J White. Junior singles – T Chesworth. Junior doubles – J Sawyer/D Taylor. Roy Gibson Memorial Rose Bowl – K Preville. Ladies – J White. Paddy Palgrave Hard Bat – K Preville.

The new season is expected to start in the first week of October. If anybody wants to enter a team or sponsor the league, you can email [email protected] for more information.
