Trophy semi-final for Spalding Lightning

On Sunday, Spalding Lightning progressed to the national semi-final for the first time in the club’s history of the mixed Egham Trophy, with a four shot win (76-72) against Cumbria.
A match which was played at a neutral venue at New Earswick, Spalding Lightning were always in front but Cumbria battled hard to take the match to the wire. Spalding Lightning were two shots up with only one rink playing their last end.
The end was played extremely well by Graham Smith’s rink to score two shots and win the match.
Spalding Lightning actually only won on one rink which was skipped by Jordan Philpott, with Ruby Hill, Tracy Philpott and Martin Spencer who won 29-14.
Next up in the semi-final are Huntingdon on Sunday, March 5.

qOn Saturday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club had a comprehensive win in the men’s county league at home against Sleaford.
Spalding won on all four rinks, the aggregate by 68 shots (114-46) and secured all 14 available match points.
The top winning rink was skipped by Dan Mills, with Mick Dolton, Oliver Stanley and James Teesdale who had an impressive 44-8 rink win.
