Trophy in memory of Les

A special trophy has been created in memory of a Holbeach stalwart.

Les Ward was involved with the Holbeach Town and Country Fair for 30 to 40 years before his death aged 77 earlier this year.

That’s on top of playing bass drum with the Holbeach Town Band and his frequent fundraising for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance alongside best friend Brenda Twigg.

The organisers of the Town and Country Fair have now decided to present the Les Ward trophy to a person who has played a vital part in the festival.

At the recent show it was awarded for a first time to Andrew Waling whose family and their steam engines have been associated with the show for many years.

A spokesman for the fair said: “It was a lovely tribute to Les and Andrew is a fitting recipient for its first awarding.”
