Trophy didn’t get away from Peel

Round 10 of the Spalding Cycling Club 10-mile League doubled up as the Fisherman’s Arms Handicap Trophy.

The award goes to the rider who either beats their season best time by the most or gets closest to their best time this year on the West Pinchbeck course.

Fastest on the night was Paul Pardoe, of Peterborough Cycling Club, who blitzed the field in a time of 20mins 36secs.

Dom Brand was second and fastest Spalding member in a time of 22:13 and another strong ride backed up his recent form for Nigel Swepson, closing the gap to just 28 seconds behind Brand.

Andy Bowser put in a notable ride on his time trial return with sixth place in 24:07.

Josh Dixon was the only rider in the road bike category, taking the win with a time of 25:27.

The ladies event was again dominated by the undefeated Evgeniya Brand, coming home 11th overall in 26:56.

The Fisherman’s Trophy saw a very different set of riders at the top.

Only Chris Peel and Nigel Swepson had season’s bests on the night and for the second consecutive year it was Peel who took the trophy.

Notably, on a different bike to which he had previously been competing on, and although 14th on the night with 27:37, he was 1:42 faster than he had been all season.

Swepson was second but only 19 seconds faster than he had previously been. Rounding out the trophy podium was Jacob Booth, who was eight seconds off his season’s course best.
