Ramsey’s Wright and Tacq take the honours

Forty teams took part in Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Seniors Stableford Pairs Open competition

Chris Wright and Roger Tacq from Ramsey Golf Club were the day’s winners with 44 points.

They were a point ahead of three others pairs, with positions decided on countback. Taking second place were Tydd’s Terry Ribbens and Chris Woods, with Michael Flint and Dave Punshon third and Michael Smith and Keith Thompson in fourth place.

Nearest the pin at the fourth hole was Andy Broughton, with the eighth hole award going to Brian Newby, the 11th to Ady Bills and 16th to Bill Boyce.

A raffle and the halfway house raised £1,060 for the Kimberley Care Home charity.

A fun day of golf saw organiser Mick Vassal thank sponsors ALB Groundworks, Brian Newby, Brighter Oven Clean, Gedney Road Groomers, Martin Wells, Pure Leisure, the local management team, catering and bar staff, greenkeepers and the seniors committee, as well as Maria and Shirley from the ladies section, who organised and ran the halfway house and between them helped to make the golf day

Seniors – July stableford, Div 1: Wayne Alder 36pts, 2 Mick Vassall 35ocb, 3 Peter Williams 35.
Div 2: 1 Kevin Johnson 39pts, 2 Dave Punshon 36, 3 Wayne Davies 35ocb.
Div 3: 1 Colin Viney 45pts, 2 Alec Harding 43, 3 Richard Martin 42.
Tydd Seniors beat Wensum Valley 5½-½ in a match that saw Dave Longstaff as guest of honour.

☐ Sutton Bridge Seniors travelled to Middleton Golf Club for a return match after winning the home encounter 5-1.

Middleton were looking for a better result on their home surface and, in dry conditions but with the greens well watered and playing well, they levelled things on aggregate with their own 5-1 success.

The winning pair for Sutton Bridge were Colin Fawcett and John Pawsey.
