Holbeach man admits assaulting firefighter

A man has been sentenced for assaulting a firefighter who was responding to a house blaze in Holbeach on New Year’s Day.

Jay Power, 33, admitted being upset with the fire service as he believed they had failed to put out a house fire which later spread to another property.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the first fire broke out in Hallgate during the early hours of January 1, 2025.

Tom Heath, prosecuting, said the fire appeared to reignite later in the day and spread to a second property.

Power, who was living in the area at the time, came out and expressed his dissatisfaction to the firefighters, Mr Heath told the court.

Mr Heath explained: “He went over to a group of firefighters. He was reported to be shouting and aggressive.”

The court heard Power was approached by a fire officer after he was reported to have made a threat to break the incident commander’s nose.

During the incident Power admitted flailing his arms around in a reckless manner and catching the fire officer on his cheek.

Mr Heath added: “At that point having said his piece he turned around and walked off.”

Power, of Roman Bank, Gedney Dyke, admitted assaulting an emergency worker and a second charge of failing to attend for his trial.

Passing sentence Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight told Power he should not have become involved in the incident however unhappy he was.

Judge Sjolin-Knight said: “You were assaulting a firefighter who was present at an active incident.”

Power was given a two year community order, fined £120 and ordered to complete a six month alcohol treatment program.
