Tributes to former teacher

A woman who it’s claimed set up the first pre-school in the area has passed away.

Jane Hill (78) is the wife of Rev David Hill who moved to Lutton from Richmond-on-Thames In 1968.

Jane, with her husband, Rev David Hill, moved from Richmond-on-Thames to the Vicarage. Before moving she was a bilingual secretary in London and Geneva.

She set up and ran the first pre-school playgroup in the area as well as teaching at Peele School in Long Suton before many years of supply teaching.

As a full-time teacher at Donington she would produce the school musicals and took her year six class on trips to France and Yorkshire.

In 1982 the Hill family moved to Pinchbeck Vicarage and Jane, an enthusiastic and talented singer, ran the church choir.

Jane performed in many SADOS musicals and for 30 years sang with Cantemus Choir and in recent years the South Holland Singers.

After she retired, Jane worked teaching English to foreign workers at factories in Spalding.

Husband David, said: “Jane is remembered as a vibrant and sociable member of the community and, as a loving mother to Emma, Matthew, Zoe and Candida, will be greatly missed, especially by her 12 grandchildren.”
