Tractors on the road for good cause

VNG010614-55smallMore than 30 tractors – mainly vintage – will be taking to the roads around Holbeach to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The outing, which will see the convoy travel from Holbeach to Sutton St James on June 22, before moving onto Fleet and Gedney on its two and a half hour route, is the idea of tractor enthusiast Kevin Pearsall.

He has his own collection of about ten vintage tractors and came up with the idea after a colleague at work was diagnosed with the disease.
But the tractor run will not be exclusive to vintage vehicles – Kevin, who works as a welder/fabricator, has opened it up to drivers of new tractors too to help boost the cause.

He said: “More than 30 people have signed up already.

“A lot of them are local people, but word is spreading through Facebook and now we have tractors coming from as far afield as Norwich.”

Drivers taking part in the tractor run will be asked for a small donation and all the money raised will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In total, the tractors will cover around 20 miles.

There will also be a raffle to further boost fundraising.

Tractors will start off at King’s Field, Hurdletree Bank, which has been provided for the day by King’s Farms.

Gates open at 9am and the run will start at about 11am, returning at about 1.30pm.
