Top Nomads performance goes unrewarded after tough second half

Spalding RFC 2nd were unfortunate to be on the receiving end of a 27-15 defeat against Towcestrians 3rd on Saturday.

Town’s second string, dubbed The Nomads, came into the game full of confidence after last week’s fine victory over Bletchley 2nd.

They started well enough, with Aaron Coupe going over for a try which was successfully converted by Jake Sayer.

Both sides fought incredibly hard in cold conditions, but it was the Nomads who struck next to extend their lead.

It was Julian Davis who broke through for another try to put Town in command.

However, Towcestrians responded well and hit back with two tries of their own, one of which was converted.

The first half closed with Towcestrians losing a man to the sin bin, while Spalding were awarded a penalty which was successfully kicked by the reliable Sayer.

The second half was, however, a different story.

Although the Nomads battled well in increasingly freezing conditions, they were unable to add to their tally of 15 points.

Meanwhile, Towcestrians racked up the points and ended up winning by a clear 12 points. The final score didn’t reflect how well Spalding played and they can be happy with their performance.

Spalding RFC 2nd: Pete Waudby, Aaron Coupe, Pete Smith, Luke Nightingale, Kevin Hudson, Kieran Bailey, Sam Elkin, Julian Davis, Richard Cooke, Jake Sayer, George Foulder, Dan Adams, Will Moore, Josh Grainger and Gav Sharman.
