Spalding Cycling Club’s Tilly roars to third position

Spalding Cycling Club’s Tilly Gurney was on top form at the Green Arrow meeting in Hertford.

Gurney’s highlight was storming to a sensational third place in the National 800m Grasstrack Championship race.
She also won the 400m handicap event and was second in the 5km and devil event.

* Spalding CC recently hosted the final round of the Hereward Inter Club 10 Mile Time Trial League, which is contested by Bourne Wheelers, Peterborough CC, Fenland Clarion and themselves.

It has been a highly successful league season for Spalding, who took first and second in the senior category with Rob McAlinden winning and Matt Chappell second.

Spalding also had a one-two in the Vets category, with Neil Palmer first and Chris Ward second.

On the night Josh Wallis also set a new course record of 19.59mins.

* In open road racing Spalding’s Frazer Wallis and Andy Bowser recently took part on the Velo99 event near Wymondham, Leicestershire.

In a fast and furious race over four laps of the course – including the ascent of Market Overton – Wallis took an excellent second from a three-man break away.

Bowser, meanwhile, led the rest of the pack in to claim fourth overall.

* Spalding CC’s weekly ten-mile time trial races continue a pace, with the rapid Josh Wallis winning the last two rounds.
With three rounds to go, including the Club Championships, its still all to play for.

* Spalding’s Saturday social rides have been incredibly well attended over the summer months with lots of new faces joining them.
The ride leaves every Saturday from Monkshouse Playing Field at 9am for those wishing to join in with them.
