Two defeats in a week without scoring have put a dent in Holbeach United’s hopes of gaining a play-off position in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North.
The Tigers were good again against title challengers Framlingham Town on Saturday.
Just weeks after drawing 3-3 with them this time a goal from Alexander Ling was enough for Framlingham to take the win 1-0 at Carter’s Park.
But manager Danny Clifton was left disappointed with his side as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Huntingdon on Tuesday night.
“It was the exact opposite of Saturday, it was really poor,” he said. “Against Framlingham we were good once again in every aspect, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“Against Huntingdon the first 45 minutes was probably the worst of the season so far and we were 2-0 down and the damage was done.
“To be fair we lost both Sam Carter and Harvey Wirkowski to injury and it was while they were off the field that we lost the second goal, so we were unlucky in that respect.
“We were just so poor in that half.
“We improved a bit in the second half in terms of there was more desire.
“But we deserved everything we got on Tuesday night and the players know they have to be better with tougher games coming up.”
Holbeach travel to Holland on Saturday who are place above them in the league.
The Tigers are tenth now eight points from the play-offs after playing more games than most of those above them.
