Tidswell to discuss Holbeach United player/coach role with boss Jarvis

Andrew Tidswell is to discuss the idea of taking on a player/coach role with Holbeach United.

The striker, who finished last season at Carter’s Park following a switch from rivals Spalding United, wants to stay with the Tigers next year.

The two-time UCL Premier Division champion and double golden boot winner does expect to chat to Holbeach boss Darren Jarvis about next season on Thursday, but admits nothing is anywhere near decided.

He said: “I’ve been a bit surprised to hear people saying that it’s a done deal. At the end of the season the idea of me taking a player/coach role was discussed, but that’s about it.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s just an idea at the moment. I am open to the idea, but a lot needs to be discussed before I’d consider agreeing to it.

“I’ve not really thought about football since the end of the season if I’m honest.

“The plan is to sit down with Darren on Thursday and we’ll take it from there.

“As far as playing is concerned, I want to stay with Holbeach and can’t see myself going anywhere else at the moment.”

Jarvis, meanwhile, feels that Tidswell would have a “significant” impact to his coaching staff and is looking forward to discussing a role with him.

The Tigers boss has held positive conversations with numerous targets since the end of the season, but does have verbal agreements with players’ player of the season Gary King and defender Stacy Cartwright already.

Jarvis said: “We have to sit down and talk to a lot of players. The situation with Andrew is that we’ve got an interest in making him player/coach – and I think it interests him too.

“Nothing is agreed yet, but I think he’d add a significant amount to the coaching staff.

“There’s plenty to iron out, but we’re hopeful that it can be sorted.

“Andrew has indicated that he’d like to stay as a player, which we’re delighted about.

“It’s also great to have had commitments from Gary and Stacy too.

“Gary was a player rejuvenated towards the end of the season and rightly won the players’ player award.

“He enjoys his football here and we’re more than happy with him. The same goes for Stacy, he’s a top player.”
