A major roadwork scheme at Holbeach will be delayed by three weeks, it was revealed on Tuesday.
Buried electricity cables are being blamed for the delays on work at the busy Peppermint junction.
Work on the A151 slip road are now unlikely to be finished until September 25, depending on the weather.
The work, which has seen Holbeach town centre packed with traffic, was due to end in time for the return to school next week.
“An issue with the location and depth of electrical cables under the A151 means we cannot safely carry out construction works in this area without the risk of serious injury or severing power to the nearby area,” said Sam Edwards, senior project leader.
“Unfortunately the utility company’s records did not identify the exact location of these cables and, therefore, provision had not been made in the scope of the original closure period,” he added.
Contractors will be working extra hours over weekends in an attempt to minimise the disruption.
The utility company needs to relocate the cables.
Traffic lights will be in operation from Monday, September 25 to Friday, October 13, including weekends.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your continued patience as we carry out these necessary works,” said Coun RIchard Davies, member of Lincolnshire County Council.
He added that a final layer of Tarmac would be laid over the majority of the road rather than using a temporary surface. The majority of footways will also be surfaced.
Last week’s Voice reported how town traders were calling for help with the extra traffic created by the roadworks.
Diversion signs have been ignored by many drivers cutting through the town.
