SLBL cricket round-up: Long Sutton bag big victory, Andrew hits ton in derby demolition

Long Sutton’s relentless charge towards the South Lincs and Border League Division One title continued on Saturday with an emphatic ten-wicket win over hosts Welby Cavaliers.

Rob Simpson (4-17) and Raj Sangha (4-15) were both on fine form to help dismiss the home side for just 77 in 36.2 overs. The other wickets went to Barry Stanway (1-23) and Dan Oldfield (1-7) as Sutton’s choice to field first bore fruit.

In reply, skipper Phil Barnes and Adam Wright each made a score of 36 not out to ease Sutton to 78-0 in 16.4 overs.

That secured another 20-point haul for the league leaders, who host mid-table South Holland rivals Moulton Harrox on Saturday (1pm).

Harrox go into that game fresh off the back of a five-wicket defeat against Belton Park. They made 108, with Andy Goodley (27) top scoring before Dan Reynolds’ unbeaten 50 steered the visitors to 112-5.

In Division Two, Long Sutton 2nd thrashed Spalding Town 3rd by 206 runs. Andrew Wright’s amazing unbeaten 111 and James Wright’s 78 steered Sutton to 259-5, before Andy Shaw (5-21) helped skittle Town out for 53.
