Quorn 2
Pinchbeck United 0
Pinchbeck United slipped into the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North’s relegation zone on Saturday after a 2-0 loss at fellow strugglers Quorn.
Strikes from Charlie Marzano (41) and Jack Samples (60) did for the Knights, who are now 17th in the 18-team division, one point from safety and seven clear of rock-bottom Holbeach United.
Pinchbeck saw a Fin Armond chance go to waste and hit the bar and post through Pat Kacirek and Jack Fixter respectively before falling behind to a Quorn side that were in the bottom two at the start of play.
The beating makes it 11 defeats in a row in all competitions for Lewis Thorogood’s side, who haven’t won since mid-September. But the Pinchbeck chief refused to be too downbeat with what he saw from his side.
“Let’s not pretend Quorn are a bad side,” said Thorogood. “At the start of the season they were being tipped to be in the top five.
“They’ve had a bad season so far, but things are turning for them and they have made a few very handy signings.
“They deserved to win on Saturday. They were physical and fluid and took their chances.
“But we were very much on top in the first 25 minutes or so. Fin Armond went through and we then hit the post and bar in the same attack. How’s your luck?
“They scored before half time, but we went into the second half with everything to play for and really pushed on.
“Unfortunately, when you do that you can leave yourself open and Quorn took advantage with a second goal that probably did for us.
“It wasn’t our best performance, we didn’t seem to be as confident on the ball as we have been in recent weeks. But, what’s done is done and we move on.
“It’s still very tight at the bottom between us and Newark in 13th, with Holbeach a bit adrift below.
“There’s plenty still to play for and we’ve got games against rivals to come.”
