Fantastic donations were the highlights as the Anglia Motel Pilgrimage Fund held its annual awards evening on Saturday, February 2 to say thank-you to those who have helped out.
For the past few decades the group has funded veterans to travel to Normandy to pay respects to the fallen, particularly around D-Day.
Organiser and hotel owner Harold Payne put on the night a Holbeach Community Centre to say thank-you to those who help make it happen.
This year’s trip to Normandy was boosted by a £5,000 donation from the charity Chosen Holbeach and a £1,000 from Barclay’s Bank.
Collections on the night also helped to raise the total to go towards this year’s trip to Normandy to £7,500.
In June, 50 young people will join the veterans helping them to lay 5,000 roses in memory of those killed.
The Pilgrimage Fund also provided donations to the children of RAF Marham, in Norfolk, whose station commander Group Captain Cab Townsend and several personnel were in attendance.
Mr Payne, said: “It was a fantastic night and it’s all to thank those that have supported and helped me and the volunteers.”
