Brennans Sports came close to a surprise win and snatching runners-up spot in Spalding Sunday League.
The Spalding side lost 5-4 to champions Pinchbeck United Sunday in the league’s final fixture of the season.
However, it was a double header and six points would have seen them leapfrog Sutton Bridge Sunday, who finished second on goal difference, and Swineshead Institute Sunday.
Brennans – who only had ten players throughout – led 2-1, but it was 2-2 at half-time.
Daniel Bergin netted a brace to take his season’s tally to 17.
However, Pinchbeck striker Josh Ford was head and shoulders above anyone else in the league, and took his final total to 61 with two more goals.
His nearest rival for the league’s golden boot was Sutton Bridge’s Matt Eaton with an impressive 32.
