Taylors made to be together

A Pinchbeck couple celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss together last Tuesday.

John (96) and Eve (94) Taylor met just after World War Two at a demob party at a pub in Sheerness.

During the war John was a leading aircraftsman with the RAF and Eve aircraftsman two with the WRAF.

They married in 1948 in the village of Walkington in Yorkshire where Eve grew up, before honeymooning in Nottingham.

They subsequently moved closer to John’s family who are from Sutton Bridge and have lived for over 60 years in Pinchbeck, John working as an accountant and Eve as a housewife.

The couple have two children and six grandchildren, one of whom sadly recently passed away. They also have 11 great grandchildren.

John says of the secret to a lasting marriage: “It’s about giving and taking the rough with the smooth, the lows and the highs.

“If you love one another you get over any difficulties.

“Eve’s a good companion.”

Eve added: “We always help each other when we need it.”
