Take a walk on the wild side

This summer holiday, get your family out into the countryside with fun events at RSPB Frampton Marsh.

Right through the school break, you can take part in special activities designed to get kids closer to nature.

Running every day, put your brain to the test with a “fabulous” treasure hunt. Pick up your entry sheet from the visitor centre before setting off around the trail, looking for questions to answer.

The treasure trail is suitable for children aged 4+ and costs £2.

If your kids are keen on the natural world, why not book onto one of the special courses running during the holiday?

On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can investigate a watery world with pond dipping.

On Fridays it is time to look at life on a smaller scale with a Mini Monsters bug hunt. With guides on hand to identify what you find, you can get a glimpse of a completely different world. Places cost £3 per child with advance booking essential.

If you prefer something big and bold, the reserve is having an open day on August 2, between 11am and 4pm. Come face-to-feeler with a lobster, workshops from the Transported arts project, nestbox building, and music from Endeavour radio. Best of all, it is completely free!

On August 7, there is a wild night ahead, with a special camping event on the reserve. Pitch your tent, then take part in the fun activities before settling down for the night, surrounded by nature.

Booking is essential as places are strictly limited. To take part costs £17.50 for adults, with children half price.

Visitor Experience Manager Chris Andrews said: “Summer is here and it is marvellous to get out into the great British countryside. Bring your kids and have a great time surrounded by wonderful wildlife.”

RSPB Frampton Marsh is five miles south-east of Boston. There are toilets and a catering area with snacks and hot and cold drinks. Entry is free and the visitor centre is open 10am to 4pm (10am to 5pm weekends).
