Week four of the Spalding and District Table Tennis League season proved a problematic one.
JDM and South Holland were unable to complete their match because of a late illness.
Tom Chesworth (JDM) played his two games against Holland’s Jean White and Piotr Olstowska, in the process proving his improvement by ending the evening level. The match will be concluded later.
Outsiders became one of three teams on five points, despite going down 3-2 to Jokers. The latter’s Guntars Briedes won both his singles and Ionel Dumitrache took their third point.
Garry Wilkinson won a singles and with team mate Joe Beadle secured the doubles in five for Outsider’s points.
Mine’s a Pint are also on five following their win by the same score over Nets n Edges –but only one game went beyond the regulation.
The Pinter’s Jeremy Hitcham and Andrew Hay took two singles and the doubles in straight ends, while Reece Kerry twice levelled the scores, once somehow fighting back to win in five.
In Division Two, Hannah Gilbert has stepped in to help Assassins while the search for another player continues. They faced the improving Tony Dorey and Ping Wang of
Hit n Hope in what really was a close match played over 23 ends in total.
Assassins’ Carlos Caneiro took two singles in four and five ends, while Wang and Dorey needed five for their wins. As often happens the doubles was the decider which Hit n Hope won on a fourth end deuce.
That win took the Hopers to eight, but they trail Rusty Nails who are on nine. This came courtesy of a 4-1 win over Hurricane Brothers.
George Wallis came from two down to win the first game for the Brothers, but that was the limit of their success, John Hayter and Richard Matthews taking the other four games.
However, Sam Wallis was unfortunate to lose out to two deuce ends in the same game.
Finally, TNC opened their account against Team TJ. Despite being out of the game for a while Adrian Louis and Matt Cole showed their experience in winning 5-0.
TJ’s youngsters did force the older pair to come from behind in the other three games.
