Table tennis round-up: Jokers knocked off top as South Holland take over

A return to regular action in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League saw a full programme for Division One – but Division Two continued to have ‘part matches’ played out.

South Holland, facing Aches and Pains, took over at the top of the table having secured a 5-0 win.

Jean White and Richard Hammond took all the points for the loss of just one end.

Previous leaders Jokers were held to a 3-2 win by Nets and Edges.

Sasha Martin took another two and helped take the doubles for the win. James Gibson and Reece Kerry scored one each to dent Jokers’ lead.

Behind the top two Bladerunners suffered a setback to their hopes, going down by 1-4 to rivals JDM.

In a match where none of the games took less than four ends, Phil Chandler took two.

John Chesworth scored one and the two of them won the doubles, while Dave Gibson scored for the losers.

At the foot of the table Mine’s a Pint suffered a whitewash at the hands of Outsiders.

Piotr Olstowska and Keith Davey took the points, but only the doubles went to regulation with all four singles going to the fourth.

In Division Two, Phil Knowles continued Pingers’ campaign to catch up on matches.

He took two off Castle Sports and then halted Hurricanes’ fight for the top with another two.

With an unreported doubles win giving the team their first win, Pingers have moved up two places to be level on points with Skidlids.

The latter took two off Win for a Curry who are down to one man for now due to injury.

However, Tom Chesworth showed how the experience is having an effect, forcing the second game to a fifth end.

At the start of the evening Jokers confirmed their place in the next round of the Marylands Cup when Guntars Briedes handicap proved too much for Bladerunners’ Dave Gibson for a winning lead.
