Another busy week in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League saw 13 matches played.
In Division One, joint leaders Jokers were again a player short – but Guntars Briedes took both points against Nets n Edges to set up a win.
However, Moulton SE – who were tied with them – completed their match with Aches and Pains and added another point too.
The Appleby brothers took four of the points for Moulton, but on the way Aches’ Hannah Gilbert, nominally the weakest of the four, produced a stunning win in four ends to hold them to 1-4.
Moulton then began a match with South Holland, in which Stephen Appleby got them off to a winning start to give them a three-point lead at the top.
Earlier, third placed Holland had dropped points to Bladerunners.
James and Dave Gibson each had a better result against the opposite opponent, but they took three of the singles for the win.
John Gilbert won the other singles for Holland along with the doubles.
Elsewhere, JDM faced Outsiders who had just one player and Phil Chandler and Jon Chesworth both won their point.
They followed this with a whitewash over Aches and Pains, though Garry Wilkinson fought hard over the nine ends he played which included four deuces.
JDM move ahead of Outsiders but still trail Underdogs who defeated Mine’s a Pint 4-1.
Kelvin Preville took another double and Dylan Taylor added another point and helped win the doubles. Jeremy Hitcham scored for the Pinters.
In Division Two, Pottermus Clarets still hold sway, despite one of their team carrying an injury.
This week they faced Hurricane Brothers and came away with a good 4-1 win.
However just one of the games finished in three ends and there were six deuce ends, four of them to win a game.
Tom Chesworth took a good double, while George Wallis got the Brothers’ point.
Clarets also took both points in a deferred match with MatDuf, who only had one player available; they lead 200up by four.
200up and Castle Sports set up their own marathon evening playing across three matches.
One was the scheduled match which had been started three weeks before but not completed.
With the scores at 2-2 the match was finished in 200’s favour.
They then brought forward their remaining clash, the second-tier teams meet four times, and currently lead 3-1.
Thirdly, they met in the second round of the Marylands Cup – which saw Castle seemingly romp home by 4-1 though the final two games were won on the final point, which if reversed would have meant a loss.
Hurricane Brothers also played Castle, but unsurprisingly did not finish. They currently lead the clash 3-0.
